hofstra university

I began attending Hofstra University in September 2018 in pursuit of a Master's Degree in Journalism as well as better opportunities when it came to searching for a career. While attending grad school at the Lawrence Herbert School of Communication I was able to turn myself into a better writer while enhancing broadcasting skills, such as writing copy, shooting video and editing using the Adobe Creative Cloud.

By being a grad student I was able to earn two internships; a public relations and social media internship with the Metropolitan Riveters of the National Women's Hockey League and an internship with MSG Networks' production department. In addition to internships, I landed a job as a freelance reporter and editor for a local newspaper and a full-time freelance position as a production assistant with MSG Networks.

Aside from professional experience, the work that I did while attending Hofstra University didn't go unnoticed by my peers and professors. Only two months into my first semester as a graduate student I was named supervising producer for Hofstra Votes Live, the Lawrence Herbert School of Communications' radio and television simulcast of the 2018 Midterm Elections. My previous experience as a news producer in Vermont and my coverage of Vermont's Town Meeting Day - the state's day for Vermonters to elect new public officials, such as mayors - landed me the position that oversaw the entire 4-hour broadcast.

After successfully producing the school's first ever live, multi-platform broadcast, I was rewarded with the opportunity to become a graduate assistant for one of the professors who had worked on the Election Day broadcast. As a grad assistant I helped create content to be used in undergraduate courses for students enrolled in the school's Radio, Television, Film major by going out and shooting video of public events and providing it to professors for editing lessons. I would be responsible for finding the event, shooting the event and interviewing those in attendance for students to then turn into a finished package in their video editing courses.

Following two successful years at Hofstra University, I graduated in May 2020 with a Master of Arts degree in Journalism with a specialization in sports and a GPA of 3.86.
